Buffalo, NY (WBEN) With another hot day forecast, utilities like National Grid say they stand ready to take on the additional demand of a hot day.

David Bertola with National Grid says the utility always has crews ready to go. "In the case of the hot weather, our systems, by nature, are built to design and maintain and withstand peak electricity demand days every 12 months or so," says Bertola. "We got 16,000 miles of electric line that runs across 11 Western New York counties, and we have 900 people here for getting up every day and keeping an eye on things and making sure that we can do, we all can do the things we enjoy, like use our pool filters and air conditioning."

Bertola says should there be an outage,, the grid is not the issue. "It's about our response, and our people are ready to go," notes Bertola.

He says peak use is around 7am to 7pm, and he says you can help with power demand at hom. "We can do a load of laundry after hours, after dinner, kind of thing that always helps a tiny bit, but if we all do it collectively, it would help a great deal to just kind of just spread, spread out the use a little bit," says Bertola. He adds, when you're not at home, bump up the air conditioning temperature. "You could save up to, up to 5% on your summertime energy bill for every degree you raise the temperature, so a 75 degree setting cost nine to 15% more than if you had your house set at 78 you know, just as an example, and make sure you're turning off your lights when you're not using it, like every little bit helps," adds Bertola.
