New details released after fatal crash in Lancaster

Lancaster, N.Y. (WBEN) - 35-year-old Nicholas Rich of Darien has been arraigned following a fatal crash in Lancaster that resulted in the death of 10-year-old boy.

The crash occurred at the intersection of Broadway and Schwartz Road on Friday, Oct. 13 while Rich was under the influence of alcohol.


New information from the Erie County District Attorney's Office has revealed that Rich allegedly threw a thermos filled with alcohol from his vehicle after the crash.

Rich has been charged in Lancaster Town Court on one count of Vehicular Manslaughter (Class "D" felony), one count of Tampering with Evidence (Class "E" felony), one count of Driving While Intoxicated and one count of Reckless Driving (unclassified misdemeanors).

He is currently being held without bail.

Rich will return to court for a felony hearing this Thursday.
