Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - New York Parks Police decided to honor a fallen Buffalo firefighter as they acquired a new K9. They've named the dog Arno, in memory of fallen Buffalo firefighter Jason Arno.
Major Clyde Doty says Parks Police acquired a new K9 last Thursday for the purpose of explosive detection, patrol tracking and apprehension. The dog has been assigned to Officer Michael Cali.

"As we prefer not to use the name that came with the canine we're struggling to find a fitting name for him. The next day, Friday morning, the four of us were sitting around, discussing and throwing out all kinds of different names," said Doty.
According to Doty, it was Cali who suggested Arno after the fallen firefighter.
"From there, we contacted Commissioner Rinaldo to seek approval from Jason's family," Doty added.
Doty expects nothing less from his K9.
"Just as Jason served his community here in Western New York, our new canine team will also serve Western New York, as well as other areas and venues within New York State," Doty said.
Arno will undergo 16 weeks of training, first with explosive detection, then patrol tracking and apprehension training.
