New York attorney general investigating fatal crash involving off-duty Cheektowaga officer

West Seneca, N.Y. (WBEN) - The New York Attorney General’s Office is investigating a fatal crash in West Seneca involving an off-duty Cheektowaga police officer.

Attorney General Letitia James’ Office of Special Investigation is reviewing the circumstances surrounding the crash, which occurred Friday night on Clinton Street.

Authorities said a 27-year-old off-duty Cheektowaga police officer struck 16-year-old Paul Alvarez at about 9:30 p.m. while Alvarez was walking along Clinton Street. Alvarez was taken to a hospital, where he later died.

The name of the officer has not been released. The investigation into the cause of the crash remains ongoing.

The Cheektowaga Police Department released a statement saying it and the off-duty officer are cooperating fully with the investigation by the state and the West Seneca Police Department.
