Niagara, NY (WBEN) The Niagara County Industrial Development Agency has approved $123 million in incentives for Amazon to bring a warehouse to the town of Niagara.
Chairman Mark Onesi says the incentives include $49 million as a PILOT (payment in lieu of taxes) over the next 15 years. He says there's $16 million in extras, that will give the county, town and school district to split.
Onesi hopes this will be enough to bring Amazon to Niagara County. "I would believe that as soon as they put a shovel in the ground, then we're certain. There's nothing ever certain until the shovel goes in the ground," says Onesi. But he believes Amazon will come. "It's a great location for us, because that piece of property has been up for sale for a really long time," says Onesi.
The incentive package includes: a state and local use and sales tax exemption, which will abate the sales tax on construction materials, furniture fixtures and equipment during the construction phase of the project. Amazon would also receive an abatement of the state mortgage recoding tax, a fee of ¾ of 1% of the mortgage filed with the Niagara County, and a partial real property tax abatement.
