CITY OF TONAWANDA, N.Y. (WBEN)....Niawanda Park has landed a new attraction that could be a major draw for the already popular City of Tonawanda destination.
State Sen. Jeremy Zellner secured a $500,000 grant that will finance the development of a 110-foot-long overlook that will offer panoramic views of the Niagara River and Grand Island.
The 11-foot wide overlook will also include benches and other amenities.
"This will be a great amenity," Zellner said. "It will be another point of enhancement in Niawanda Park."
Niawanda has seen a number of improvements made in recent years including a new pavilion and bringing in Papi Grande's restaurant for a seasonal operation.
The new overlook will be located almost directly across from Mississippi Mudd's restaurant and near the City of Tonawanda City Hall.
Once all the permits are obtained, the project will go out to bid with construction expected to start by early 2028.
