Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - A North Tonawanda man will spend the next 20 years in prison for a deadly stabbing in 2023.

29-year-old John Rudes pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the death of 59-year-old Terry Jackson inside an apartment on Kenmore Avenue. Rudes was also sentenced to one-and-a-third years to four years in prison for stealing thousands from his former employer.

In January 2023, the victim reported to the Depew Police Department that several checks had been stolen from his business checkbook, resulting in a total loss of $3,763. Rudes, who had been an employee of the victim's landscaping company, wrote several checks payable to himself.

Between Dec. 7, 2022 and Jan. 12, 2023, Rudes deposited stolen checks at various bank locations, which was supported by video evidence.

He pleaded guilty to grand larceny in that case, and the sentences will be served concurrently.
