North Tonawanda, N.Y. (WBEN) - A 15-year-old is facing a felony weapon charge after making threats that led to the discovery of a weapon in their home.

The North Tonawanda Police Department was alerted by a staff member at the North Tonawanda Youth and Recreation Center on Tuesday of a juvenile that made firearm-related threats towards other juveniles he was having issues with.

After receiving the call, detectives arrived at the juvenile's residence and spoke with the teen and his parents. The family was cooperative during the investigation.

Detectives searched the teen's bedroom and discovered a loaded handgun concealed in the ceiling. The juvenile was placed under arrest and brought to the North Tonawanda Police Department for processing.

The teen faces one count of Criminal Possession of a Firearm (Class "E" felony). He was released on an appearance ticket to the custody of his parents.

North Tonawanda Police Chief Keith Glass commends the actions of the staff at the North Tonawanda Youth and Recreation Center for their diligence in alerting the police department, and encourages any others who may hear or know of any other similar incidents to contact police to keep the community safe.
