Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) Thirteen current and former students at the University of Buffalo have had their visas revoked by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

This comes as the Trump administration has been cracking down on non-citizens in the country.

"This is happening nationwide. We're seeing it at all levels of colleges and universities," said Attorney Rosanna Berardi of Berardi Immigration Law.

"What concerns me is that they are terminating visas for students with mild traffic infractions, such as speeding or driving with a headlight out. It's low level offenses, and we're also hearing that some are being terminated for things that the students have said regarding political positions."

Of the thirteen students, Four are current students. Nine are recent UB graduates.

Berardi described any attempt at recourse as being limited and difficult.

"We're almost at the tail end of the semester. This is really, really messy."

She said universities are caught in the middle. They are being notified and given a list of names. The university is responsible for reaching out to the student and being the bearer of bad news, not the federal government.

Once a visa is terminated, there is no grace period. Usually the person is gone the next day.

Berardi expects more deportations.

"I expect more. The University of Buffalo has a very large international student population. I think, unfortunately, this is just the beginning of it."
