West Seneca, N.Y. (WBEN) - Imagine this scenario for a moment.
While packing your car to move to North Carolina and loading your pet cat into the car, the cat escapes, never to be seen again.
That's what happened to 'Francis' as she was in the process of moving in August and she ultimately had to leave without her beloved cat, 'Tommy'.
As luck would have it, as the T-Mobile SPCA RadioThon was unfolding months later, Francis got a call from the SPCA that Tommy had been located and arrangements were being made to fly the cat to North Carolina to reunite it with his owner in a climate much more similar to what they experienced at the time of separation in August.
"As usual it's one of those stories that happens right during the RadioThon," says Gina Lattuca at the SPCA. "Talk about a Christmas gift."
Tommy was surrendered to the SPCA by a good samaritan and the tiny micro-chip embedded in the cat is the only reason the two are being reunited.
"Turns out the cat was adopted from us," said Lattuca. "At the time of adoption we were able to put that microchip in and we traced Tommy the cat to an owner in North Carolina."
The SPCA staff scanned the micro-chip and traced the animals owner and contacted her this week. Francis told the SPCA all she wanted for Christmas was her Tommy home.
Christmas wish granted, says Lattuca. "This is one of the reasons we have microchips included with our adoptions."
"The microchip did it's job."
And so did the SPCA.
