(WBEN) - New poll numbers show that by a wide margin, New Yorkers do not think Governor Kathy Hochul made progress on the goals she laid out for 2022.
The Siena Research Poll, released Tuesday, shows voters believe Hochul did not make progress on six of the goals she laid out for 2022, including making communities safer, enhancing trust in state government, transforming SUNY into the envy of the nation, and making the state a place people want to live, not leave.
"Today, when asked whether the Hochul Administration did or did not make progress on these goals, voters give a resounding 'no.' A majority or strong plurality say she did not make progress on any of them," said Siena Research pollster Steve Greenberg. "Fewer than one third of voters say her Administration made progress on any of the goals. Independents... strongly say no progress was made on any of the goals Hochul set for herself."
As for 2023, 63% of voters polled said cost of living should be one of the top two priorities for Hochul and legislators, followed by crime at 58%.
In the first widespread polling since the election, Hochul's favorability rating and job approval rating both dipped slightly, but
remain in positive territory, while her former gubernatorial challenger Lee Zeldin now has a 46-32% favorability rating, up 18 points from prior to the election.
"Interestingly, Zeldin emerged after Election Day with by far his best ever favorability rating, 46-32%, including a two-to-one favorable rating with independents, 51-25%," Greenberg said.
