Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz says he does not anticipate a county-wide driving ban during Wednesday's lake effect event. But he is requesting employers keep their staff at home.

Poloncarz says the state of emergency he issued for this past weekend's storm has not been lifted yet.

"We are not anticipating putting a county-wide driving ban on at this time, we may consider localized driving bans for communities if needed," said Poloncarz on Tuesday.

Poloncarz says the travel advisory is still in effect, and advises to exercise care, especially if you're in an area that was hit hard.

"There are people who are walking on streets instead of using sidewalks because sidewalks not clear. So if you have a sidewalk we're asking all businesses as well as individuals to clear sidewalks and declare fire hydrants that may be on your lawns or on your property," reminded Poloncarz.

The County Executive has a request for employers throughout the county.

"We are strongly recommending that employers use remote work if possible," says Poloncarz.

He adds this is to keep the number of vehicles off the roads down in the next day or two, so crews can have an opportunity to clear the roads and keep them clear.

"Conditions may not warrant a driving ban. But we really would prefer that employers who have work that they can be done remotely that it'd be done remotely to eliminate the need to have all these individuals trying to drive to work," added Poloncarz.

CHECK: WBEN Closings

Poloncarz says a number of school districts will be closed Wednesday. That is not because of weather on the way to school, but concerns about conditions on the way back.

Buffalo, West Seneca, Orchard Park, Williamsville and Grand Island are among the districts cancelling classes Wednesday.
