Buffalo, NY (WBEN) Congressman Tom Reed says he will not object to any state's electors as Congress certifies Joe Biden's election as president Wednesday.
During a conference call, Reed says he looks to the Constitution as to what role he can play. "The US Constitution calls upon our election for president to be done at the state level, and if there are issues of fraud, whether the elections are carried out lawfully, they must be carried out at the state level," says Reed. "They are to be reviewed at the state level, and when it comes to reviewing and objecting the electors, our role is to respect the electors sent to us by the respective states."
Reed says states like Pennsylvania and Georgia, where results have been disputed, there will not be an alternative elector arriving. He says there is no state legislature that has asked Congress to intervene. "I will not be objecting to the electors based upon my commitment to the US Constitution," says Reed.
Reed says he understands the concerns of Trump supporters. "I hear the voices of the millions of voters who do believe the election was stolen from them, who believe President Trump won this election, and what I will do is recognize their frustration, recognize their belief, and extend a hand to say what we should do is make sure there is no integrity issue with our election process," adds Reed. He also says the Republicans should strive to win the hearts and minds of voters who did not vote for Trump or the vision of the Republican party.
