NEW YORK (WBEN) — Regal movie theaters on Thursday announced they would be closing again, just three weeks after reopening.
"In line with our previously announced strategy, Regal is temporarily suspending operations at the remainder of our theatres in New York State and California until the public health and operational environment allows for the resumption of a full release slate," the company said in a statement.
Regal says one of the reasons for closing again isn’t because of health concerns, but because there are not enough movies to show at the current time.
With theaters shut all over the country, major film studies have decided to pull nearly all their potentially profitable movies from release, postponing them until 2021.
According to the company’s statement, the change will affect a “very limited number” of Regal theaters.
Movie theaters in New York State were allowed to reopen on Oct. 23, when Gov. Andrew Cuomo lifted his restrictions on them. They remained closed in New York City.
The theater company says it plans to reopen again when conditions improve.
“Regal will continue to monitor the situation closely and will communicate any future plans to resume operations at the appropriate time, when key markets have more concrete guidance on their reopening status, and in turn, studios are able to bring their pipeline of major releases back to the big screen,” the company said in a statement.
