Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - A Thanksgiving tradition in Western New York is back, as registration has opened for the 130th YMCA Buffalo Niagara Turkey Trot, scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 27.

Trotters can register at YMCATurkeyTrot.org

The Turkey Trot is the oldest consecutively run footrace in the world that dates back to 1896. The 8K race attracts more than 14,000 runners and walkers annually.

Participants are encouraged to sign up early to take advantage of early bird pricing, and to secure a spot in the race. The Thanksgiving Day tradition is expected to sell out again this year.

The early bird price of $39 is only from Aug. 8-Oct. 3, as the price then increases to $44 on Oct. 4.

Volunteer opportunities are also available for pre-race and race-day positions.

Proceeds raised from the Turkey Trot support YMCA programs and services that empower youth, improve community health, and address community needs.

WBEN's Tom Puckett will serve as MC for a 23rd-consecutive year.
