Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - Registration is open for the oldest consecutively run foot race in the world. The YMCA Buffalo Niagara Turkey Trot is expected to fill up 14,000 slots quickly for the Thanksgiving morning event.
The YMCA's Danielle Roberts is excited, and expects all 14,000 slots to be filled up. She adds the registration fee is $39.
"It's not just getting into an 8k race, but every single dollar goes right back into our community to support the children and families who need our services," said Roberts in an interview with WBEN.
There's one other reason to sign up, says Roberts. You'll get a first-hand view of the annual costume contest.
"You'll see people dress up from turkey to the canoe guys, to people dressed up as the Thanksgiving dinner, Super Mario Brothers, all different types of costumes. It makes a lot of fun for the event," Roberts added.
This is the 129th Turkey Trot, and WBEN's Tom Puckett will serve as MC for a 22nd-consecutive year.
