Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - Congressman Nick Langworthy (R, NY-23) was in Buffalo on Thursday, speaking outside the Buffalo VA Medical Center along Bailey Avenue to address this week's change in leadership at the hospital.

During his visit to the VA Hospital on Thursday, Langworthy met with the interim leadership at the facility. He says an Inspector General Report in regards to what’s being going on inside the facility, such as dozens of patients getting delayed care and having to be outsourced to other facilities, will come out in September.

"It’s an administrative problem," said Langworthy during his press conference. "Some employees were not doing their job."

According to Langworthy, there’s been 3-to-4-dozen cases where cancer treatments have been delayed, such as a lung cancer patient who waited for care for 10 weeks, and have been outsourced to other hospitals. He adds there are processes that are "out of whack," appearing to be in line with what State Assemblyman Pat Burke told WBEN on Wednesday in regards to the reason some people have to wait so long for appointments.

Medical Director Michael J. Swartz and Chief of Staff Dr. Philippe Jaoude have been reassigned pending the results of the investigation. Shawn De Fries, associate director of VA Finger Lakes Healthcare System, has been named Acting Medical Center Director.
