CLARENCE, N.Y. (WBEN) The developer of Western New York's first living center, is revising its plan for the redevelopment of the Eastern Hills Mall footprint.
Uniland has requested to bump up the housing component of the plan for the Clarence mall from 800 units to 1400 units. That would accommodate
over 3-thousand people living on the site.
The change reflects a projected increase in demand for housing in the area.

"They're doing a study on sewer capacity for the development, " Clarence
Town Supervisor Patrick Casilio told WBEN. They've decided to up the amount of people that will be allowed to live on the property. They're spending almost a million dollars for the sewer study to make sure they have the capacity to handle it."
It's a mixed use development with professional services, retail and residential elements. The site is comprised of about 110 acres. Casilio said it's essentially like having a new village in the town of Clarence.
Work will be done in three phases.
Current tenants on the property now, include Raymour & Flanigan, JC Penney, Sto-Lat Bar and Chrusciki Bakery.
"We're pretty confidant that as they complete the first phase of the project, that Sto-Lat and Chrusciki can be moved across the property into a retail area," added Casilio.
The project was reviewed by the Clarence Town Board on Wednesday. Next, it goes to the Clarence Planning Board.
"This is going to be very special to Western New York, once they get started. I know they (developers) have talked about a twenty year process, but I think when we get all the details worked out, it could be built out within ten years," said Casilio.

The sewer study is expected to take about a year to complete.
