The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) announced that road work is scheduled to begin this week on the continuing project to rehabilitate a portion of NY Route 5 in the town of Hamburg and the city of Lackawanna, Erie County. As a result, lane closures are scheduled to occur.

Beginning Monday March 15, 2021, at approximately 7 a.m., NY Route 5, from Ridge Road to NY Route 179, will have various westbound (outbound) / eastbound (inbound) lane closures for road work. The road work will be complete by 5 p.m. daily. The road work is expected to last for approximately six months. Further travel advisories will be issued as road construction progresses.

This road work is weather sensitive and may be delayed in the event of inclement weather.

Motorists are reminded to Move Over a lane, if safely possible, or slow down significantly whenever encountering roadside vehicles displaying red, white, blue, amber or green lights, including maintenance and construction vehicles in work zones.

Motorists are urged to slow down and drive responsibly in work zones. Fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. Convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual's driver license
