Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - The Buffalo Sabres return home after a successful three-game road trip, and will celebrate Tage Thompson's Olympic gold medal prior to Tuesday's game against the Vegas Golden Knights.
Anna Stolzenburg from the Sabres says there will be a four-minute ceremony to honor Thompson.
”We'll give him his flowers for his gold medal win,” said Stolzenberg in an interview with WBEN. “We have rally towels for every fan that has ‘TNT’ on it with a gold medal on it, so all the fans will be waving the rally towels while page is at center ice.”
Stolzenburg says Thompson had a request after Jack Hughes asked him to be part of his ceremony in New Jersey this past Wednesday.
“Tage talked to us and wanted to make sure that both Jack Eichel and Noah Hanifin on the Vegas Golden Knights, who played for Team USA [were recognized],” she noted. “We're going to [make sure] Tage is going to have his moment, and then we're going to make sure those two come out and get a picture with all Team USA gold medal winners at center ice.”
Also being honored Tuesday will be Sabres general manager Jarmo Kekalainen, who won a bronze medal as part of Finland’s front office staff. The Sabres' team masseuse, Brett Crompton, will also get recognition as the team masseuse for Team USA.
Stolzenburg says it's a great time to be at KeyBank Center with the team hopefully continuing to play so well and on a push for the playoffs.
“Energy's going to be amazing,” she said. “The gold medal homecoming game is almost sold out, so I would say definitely get your tickets soon, if you haven't already for these upcoming games. They’re all selling at a great pace.”
Among the upcoming themes are high school hockey, women in sports day, but she prefers to let the team speak for itself and continue to push here towards the playoffs.
The Sabres are currently in second place in the Atlantic Division.
