NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (WBEN) – Several students at Niagara Falls High School are facing discipline after a series of fights marred the first week of school in the district.
Four separate fights happened at the school this week involving 21 students. Video of the fights circulated social media. One student, who was characterized as a bystander, was injured in the melee and taken to the hospital. She is now recovering. Meanwhile, another student is facing assault and harassment charges.
More turmoil occurred Friday when social media posts suggested there could have been a shooting at the district. One post showed a gun between someone's legs in a bathroom, though the district's investigation later found the photo was taken in Texas and not Niagara Falls. Another student alleged a person pointed a gun at a bus driver. The bus incident was investigated and officials learned the student accused was never even on the bus.
Superintendent Mark Laurrie said there will be a continued police presence at the district. He also said those students involved are currently suspended and will face a hearing sometime next school week to determine any future discipline.
