Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - Governor Hochul's favorability and job approval ratings are down, while her lead over Republican challenger Bruce Blakeman has grown according to a new Siena Research poll.
41% of those polled have a favorable opinion of the Democrat governor, dropping from 45% in March. That's her lowest favorability rating since June 2025.
48% of people say they approve of the job the governor is doing. That's down from 52% in March and is her lowest job approval rating since April 2025.
Despite the drop in those two key categories, the same poll shows New Yorkers still prefer Hochul to Republican challenger Bruce Blakeman. 49% say they would vote for Hochul compared to 33% for Blakeman. Hochul's lead over her GOP opponent grew 3 points since March.
Blakeman still has work to do in getting his name out there as 64% of respondents said they have never heard of the Nassau County executive or have no opinion about him.
Beyond the governor's race, the poll found that 67% of New Yorkers, both Democrat and Republican, think New York's cost of living is on the wrong track.
President Trump's favorability rating also fell from 35% in March to 33%. His job approval rating dropped from 37% in March to 34%.
"His favorability rating among Republicans is down to 65-27%, from 78-18%, and his job approval rating is down to 71-27%, from 84-15%,” Siena pollster Steve Greenberg says.
“This is the lowest favorability rating – net -31 points – during Trump’s current term in office. It also represents the highwater mark for voters who strongly disapprove of the job he’s doing, 55%, and the low water mark for those who strongly approve of the job he’s doing, 19%.”
