Snow stopping YMCA Turkey Trot? Not a chance

Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - The weather forecast this Thanksgiving calls for varying levels of snow to fall in the morning hours. Depending on who is talking, we could see anywhere from a dusting of snow to 20 inches.

But will snow prevent the 130th annual YMCA Turkey Trot and its 14,000-plus runners from hitting the Delaware Avenue course? No way.

Runners are prepared, and so is the YMCA Buffalo Niagara, says Paul Stockman, YMCA communications director.

Stockman says the YMCA is working with Buffalo's Public Works officials to make sure the five-mile long Delaware Avenue course is clear and race-ready.

As for the runners, many will be wearing weather-appropriate clothing and sneakers/running shoes.

"I've got a pair with spikes if the snow is really that deep, but I'm not expecting it," said Mark Dadd, an Attica resident who has run the Turkey Trot for more than 30 years.

"It's better than running in the rain," added Courtney Rash from East Amherst, who has run the race every year since 2008.

The race begins on Delaware Avenue, just north of Hertel Avenue and ends on Franklin Street by the Buffalo Convention Center.

Victor resident Brady Robinson, who has run the Turkey Trot for the past 13 years, says he isn't wearing anything different.

"Whatever I put on is what I'm running with," Robinson said.
