Newstead, N.Y. (WBEN) - New York State Police continues to look into a fatal three-car crash that took place Saturday morning in the Town of Newstead.
At around 7:54 a.m. ET, Troopers out of Clarence responded to a collision involving three vehicles on State Route 5.
A preliminary investigation determined that a 2011 Kia and a 2017 Chevrolet were traveling Eastbound on Route 5. The Kia stopped to turn into a driveway when the Chevrolet struck the rear of the Kia. The Chevrolet then crossed the center line of the road, striking a 2019 Honda head-on.
The 18-year-old operator of the Kia was taken by Mercy Flight to Erie County Medical Center for serious injuries. Police says the driver was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
However, the operator of the Honda, 54-year-old Keith Wagner of Rochester, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
State Police say this is still an ongoing investigation.
