Tonawanda, N.Y. (WBEN) - Less than a year after abruptly closing the plant, Sumitomo Rubber says it is selling its plant in the Town of Tonawanda to Hwa Fong Rubber.
"It's very good news for me, with the rapid turnaround, is really evidence that what we knew all along Tonawanda is attractive to manufacturers," said State Assemblymember Bill Conrad. "It's given its position on water and the acreage available, and, you know, be able to hook up to power and what have you the potential this corridor cannot be overstated."
Conrad says Hua Fong is expecting to create between 100-150 jobs in the future, with expansions as they bring in other partners.
"This isn't just going to be one company. This is going to be the the Hua Fong manufacturing industrial park, and we're going to have lots of other companies that are coming to the site and will be hiring as well," Conrad added.
He says he's pleased to see a quick turnaround considering the shock of the abrupt closure of Sumitomo.
Conrad hopes to see work begin by the start of the new year.
