Safety is taking center stage at this weekend's Taste of Buffalo.

Taste organizers are letting people know they are prepared for the large two day food festival downtown, which is coming days after a violent weekend in which 11 people suffered gunshot wounds during a street takeover event on the East side.

"Security is one of our main focal points of the festival," said Taste of Buffalo Chairman Adam Roma, on WBEN Wednesday.

""This is something we plan 12 months in advance for. It starts with the city of Buffalo, and Buffalo Police. We have the support of the Erie County Sheriff's Department, the FBI, the Department of Homeland Security. We have teams on the street, both in uniform and in plain clothes. We have a private security firm as well, securing all checkpoints and the entire festival footprint," added Roma.

He said they have met with all of their security partners this week after the unfortunate violence that occurred last weekend, saying they are not being reactive; but instead pro active

The Taste is in its 43rd year downtown.

Roma said they pride themselves on the safety of the event.

"I'm a family person. I'm bringing my family down. I feel totally confident in our security personnel and protocols in place.

The Taste of Buffalo will be held on July 11 and 12 . The festival takes place along Delaware Avenue stretching from Niagara Square to Chippewa Street and around Niagara Square.
