Buffalo, NY (WBEN) A 16 year old from Buffalo was treated as a youthful offender but will spend time in prison after trying to drive off in a reported stolen vehicle, injuring Buffalo Police officers in the process.
Prosecutors say the teen was in the driver's seat when an officer noticed the stolen vehicle at a gas station on Bailey Avenue and Langfield Drive across from the E District station. The adolescent offender refused commands by the officers to exit and instead placed the vehicle into reverse.
A police lieutenant was injured after being hit by the open passenger side door as the vehicle moved in reverse. During the pursuit, the adolescent offender swerved into a civilian car, which subsequently hit a police patrol vehicle.
After crashing the stolen vehicle into a parked car on Peach and Best streets, the adolescent offender ran off. Two other officers were injured while chasing the adolescent offender and placing him under arrest.
"I hope that those officers who were injured during this incident feel that justice has been served by this adolescent offender pleading guilty and serving a period of incarceration for his crimes," says Erie County District Attorney John Flynn.
The adolescent offender pleaded guilty to one count of Assault on a Police Officer, and two counts of Assault in the Second Degree on September 20, 2021.
