Blasdell, NY (WBEN) Ten Lives Club is welcoming 28 cats from shelters in Texas who are becoming overwhelmed following flooding in other parts of the state. This will allow those Texas facilities to welcome cats displaced by the flooding.

Kim LaRussa says Ten Lives club teamed up with Best Friends Animal Society to take in cats from a shelter called Austin Pets Alive. "The shelters are full in that area with pets that were already there before the floods, and so now Best Friends Animal Society is doing their due diligence to reach out to rescues and have them take in the cats that are already there, to make room for the cats that are displaced, and hopefully reunite them with their families," explains LaRssa.

LaRussa says it's Ten Lives Club's mission to partner with others and to help them save as many cats as possible. "Of course, our local cats come first in Western New York, but if we have the resources in the room to be able to help cats that are faced with natural disasters, or cats that are at risk of being euthanized in other areas, we want to make sure we help those cats," says LaRussa.

LaRussa says the cats coming in are not from parts of Texas affected by flooding and will be put up for adoption. "The shelters are full in those areas, so they don't have room right now to take in the cats that have been displaced from the flood that need to go back to their owners. So by Ten Lives Club taking in these cats into western New York that were already at the shelters, those shelters in Texas have more room to be able to take those cats that were displaced in the flood," adds LaRussa.

LaRussa says if Ten Lives Club is able to take in more cats from Texas, it will do so.
