Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - Buffalo firefighters were called to an early morning fire at a historic East Side factory that turned into a three-alarm firefighter.
The fire was reported at 4:15 a.m. at the former Blaw-Knox factory at 750 E. Ferry Street.
While the two-story, 250,000-square-feet building was vacant, the extra firefighters were called in as a precaution and to assist with knocking down the fire.
No one was injured.
The fire was listed as under control by 6 a.m.
Buffalo firefighters are continuing to look at the cause of the fire.
Preliminary estimates peg the damage at approximately $450,000 - subject to further investigation.
The former factory dates back to 1920 and has had a succession of owners and uses during the past century.
In the latest deal, the complex was acquired in September 2021 by an investment group, who paid $1 million, according to Erie County records.
The investment group, six years, said it was considering converting the factory into workforce housing, but those plans never materialized.
