(WBEN Buffalo, NY) With a major storm approaching the Western New York area and expected to hit Friday morning, the New York State Thruway Authority has issued a travelers advisory to truck drivers.
Starting Friday morning at 6am all tandem trailers and all trucks with empty trailers will not be allowed on the Thruway from the Henrietta exit to the Pennsyvania State line in both directions. Those trucks will also not be allowed on the entire length of the 190 through Buffalo and up into Niagara County.
The decision to ban those trailers is because of the high wind warnings for the area through Monday morning.
Local towns in Western New York will also be issuing warnings concerning the storm. The Town of Tonawanda is asking residents, if possible, not to park on the street Friday, Saturday, and Sunday during the anticipated severe winter storm. This will allow town highway crews to more efficiently salt and plow as the weather quickly worsens.
