Tonawanda, NY (WBEN) - The Town of Tonawanda is looking to place three roundabouts along Parker Boulevard with the goal of reducing the speed of traffic.

The project, which is supported by Town of Tonawanda Supervisor Joe Emminger, was first devised five years ago, and originally included roundabouts at Harrison and Parker and Decatur and Parker. Another at Parker and Englewood was included after public comment.

"One of the things that we've addressed in this project is putting in bump outs and making the the areas that people have to cross the road much shorter in distance," said Emminger.

Emminger said the idea is to stop drivers from going through an intersection at 35 or 45 miles per hour, and slow them down to about 15 miles per hour in the roundabout.

The project is still in the planning stages, but work could begin this summer. A public hearing on the matter will be scheduled in April.
