BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) - Don't expect the Canadian border to open any time soon for unvaccinated travelers. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Thursday the border not be opened for those who have not received a COVID-19 vaccine for "quite a while".
"We need to continue to ensure that the safety of Canadians of all the sacrifices so many people have made over the past many, many months have not been for nothing," Trudeau told CTV News.
The border remains closed for non-essential travelers through July 21, though the Canadian government has repeatedly extended the closure for a month at a time. Canada wants more of its citizens to be vaccinated before reopening the border. 67% of all Canadians have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and 27% are fully vaccinated.
