Cheektowaga, NY (WBEN) Two men are charged after Cheektowaga Police say they sped away from them following a shoplifting incident.

Just before 11:30 yesterday morning police say they received a shoplifting complaint at the "Going, Going, Gone!" store inside Walden Galleria. Cheektowaga Police Officers responded and say they located a vehicle matching an eyewitness description traveling on Union away from Galleria Drive.


Officers initiated emergency lights and sirens, but the driver of the vehicle failed to comply. For safety reasons, police called off the pursuit, but the suspect vehicle continued at a high rate of speed, disregarding traffic signals, and caused a crash at the intersection of Union Road and Genesee Street.
Both suspects fled the scene of the accident on foot.

Officers located the two individuals a short distance away from the accident where they were taken into custody. The driver of the vehicle was identified as 55-year- old Preston Haris of Lackawanna, who is charged with Petit Larceny, Reckless Endangerment 2nd, Reckless Driving, Resisting Arrest, and Criminal Impersonation. Haris was held in custody for arraignment.

The second occupant in the vehicle, 56-year-old Byron Robinson of Buffalo, was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7 th and was released on an appearance ticket.
