Village of Fredonia, N.Y. (WBEN) - Two employees at a McDonald's on East Main Street in the Village of Fredonia were hospitalized Sunday night after a gas explosion.

The Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office says one of the employees was cleaning behind a grill. A natural gas line attached to the grill detached when the grill was pulled out. Another grill ignited the gas as it flowed out from the detached line, causing an explosion.

Safety features automatically shut off the natural gas supply, according to the Sheriff's office, which kept fire damages "to a minimum."

One employee was flown to an unspecified Buffalo hospital, another to a local hospital in Fredonia. A third employee was evaluated at the scene.

The Sheriff's office says the explosion and ensuing fire was accidental.
