Will serve as one of five SUNY sites statewide

Buffalo, NY (WBEN) UB South has been chosen to be one of five campuses in the SUNY system to participate in the distribution of the COVID19 vaccine. The announcement was made Monday.

"Time and time again, SUNY has taken on whatever task was needed to combat COVID, and today is no different. I want to express my gratitude to the University at Albany, Stony Brook University, the University at Buffalo, Binghamton University, and SUNY Potsdam for volunteering to serve as vaccination sites for their respective communities. In the weeks and months to come, eligible New Yorkers will make appointments and arrive at these SUNY campuses to receive the vaccine and protection from COVID-19. I am proud of these institutions for mobilizing so quickly, and of our university system as a whole for continuing to offer major contributions in the battle against this virus."

Registration will be required. Additional information about the South Campus vaccination site, including a specific building location and hours of operation, will be provided at a later date.

Members of the UB community have worked tirelessly to respond to COVID-19 in myriad ways, whether caring for patients as frontline physicians in Western New York hospitals, volunteering in hard-hit areas like New York City, or conducting research on the virus and its impacts.

"The UB community has made many significant contributions in the fight against COVID-19 through its research, teaching and volunteer efforts. UB is proud to continue making a positive impact by serving as a vaccination site," said UB President Satish K. Tripathi. "This will help bring the vaccines closer to the community, speeding up a return to normalcy for Western New Yorkers."

Michael E. Cain, MD, UB's vice president for health sciences and dean of the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, is a member of the Western New York vaccine hub leadership team, which is headed by Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul and also includes ECMC President and CEO Tom Quatroche, PhD, and Catholic Health President and CEO Mark Sullivan, MPA, FACHE.
