Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - Voters across Western New York overwhelmingly approved new budgets for local schools Tuesday night, including those in Hamburg and West Seneca.
In Hamburg the votes were 1,456 to 521 in favor of passing the budget, which totals nearly $84 million. That budget includes layoffs to 20 staff members, including 13 teachers.
West Seneca's budget went through as 1,693 voters said yes compared to 860 no votes. West Seneca's budget includes the elimination of over 47 full-time positions.
Both budgets had received pushback from community members due to those job cuts, with students at both Hamburg and West Seneca staging walkouts in support of their teachers.
