Warren, Pa. (WBEN) - Warren County commissioners and the prison board are looking at policy changes following last week's escape by Michael Burham.

Commissioners and prison board members reviewed policy, first calling for repairs to the recreation room roof. "The commissioners have ordered the space be augmented with deterrents and safety measures," including removal of the exercise equipment authorities believe Burham used in his escape last Thursday.

Commissioners expect structural fixes to be done by the end of the week, with longer term upgrades completed in the next few weeks.

Commissioners say policies involving inmate access and observation are being reviewed. "It's important to understand prisoners must have access to recreational space and outdoor exercise," say commissioners. Because of the size of the jail and the fact it's near capacity, inmates are brought in in shifts.
