Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - NewsRadio 930 WBEN has been honored with two Regional Edward R. Murrow Journalism Awards in the categories of Breaking News and Newscast.

The Breaking News award is for coverage of a quickly developing and fast-moving tornado that moved through downtown Buffalo in August 2024. Once the funnel cloud moved off Lake Erie and the Niagara River and began to advance through the downtown corridor, the calls came in to WBEN and were LIVE on air as images began to fill WBEN social media platforms and the website. The coverage remained on the air throughout the day and offered listeners a place to learn of the breaking weather news as well as share their experiences in dealing with it.

WBEN was also honored in the Newscasts category for the comprehensive recap of the much-anticipated solar eclipse that was visible across the region in April 2024. The coverage on A New Morning with Susan Rose and Brian Mazurowski involved the entire WBEN Team and demonstrated the station's commitment to being there for the community when it needs it the most.

WBEN is now in contention for the National Edward R. Murrow Awards in both categories and the winners will be announced later this year.
