Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - The NHL has postponed the game between the Chicago Blackhawks and Buffalo Sabres because of travel restrictions in western New York for extreme winter weather.
The league announced the game scheduled for Wednesday night would instead be played Thursday night. There’s a travel ban in place for the city of Buffalo and local executives were hoping the league would move back the game in the name of public safety.
The NHL and the Sabres have already announced that the game has been rescheduled and will be played Thursday at KeyBank Center with a 7 p.m. EST faceoff.
The postponement was requested by both Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown and Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz during their midday briefings on Wednesday.
The Blackhawks had made it to town, which is usually enough for the NHL to decide to go on with a game.
A driving ban remains in place for Downtown Buffalo, where KeyBank Center is located.
Original tickets for the game can be used for entry to the rescheduled game on Thursday.
