BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) - New York State will be giving a limited supply of the COVID-19 vaccine to Wegmans for distribution, the company said Monday.
Nine of the Wegmans locations across the state will receive the vaccine, two of which are in Western New York. The company said their location on Alberta Drive in Amherst and their Sheridan Drive location in Williamsville will receive the vaccine.
The vaccines will be meant for people ages 75 and older. Appointments can be scheduled through the Wegmans website or by calling 1-800-207-6099. Vaccines will not be given to anyone without an appointment or photo ID for proof of age eligibility.
Wegmans said they are currently unable to vaccinate the other groups eligible in phase one.
"We value this opportunity to help increase the vaccination rates in New York State and help control the COVID-19 pandemic as we all work toward the ultimate goal of achieving herd immunity throughout our communities," John Carlo, Wegmans Senior Vice President of Pharmacy, said in a statement. "We understand there are many out there who are interested in receiving the vaccine as soon as possible, and we are working hard every day to be ready when vaccinations become available more broadly. Until then, we ask for everyone's patience and understanding as we begin vaccinating and focus first on those in our community who are age 75 and older."
Wegmans locations in Rochester and Syracuse will also administer the vaccine.
