Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - Welcome back the heat and humidity to Western New York.
The summertime sizzle has returned to the region this week, as heat and humidity will settle in as the week progresses. Temperatures will consistently reach highs in the mid-80s, with the forecast only calling for precipitation late Monday night into Tuesday morning, and then a chance of rain on Friday.
With the was and humid summer weather returning to Western New York, many locally are preparing as best as they can.
"I'm absolutely ready for the hot and humid weather. I have got an ice-cold case of Blue Light sitting in the trunk, gonna throw it in the fridge, and I'll be ready for next week," said Justin from Kitchener, Ontario, but a regular visitor to the region.
Others like John from North Buffalo feel they have no other choice but to be ready for what's to come this week.
"I like the spring weather, that's my favorite. When it gets really hot and humid, it's a little difficult. In Buffalo, we certainly get that high humidity, so I guess I'm ready, but reluctantly," John said with WBEN.
While the weather will turn hot and humid, many locally will take the warmer weather compared to the cold and snow of Western New York.
"I have been out in all the weather. Every single day I go out and run, whether it's cold, whether it's rainy, the sun's shining. I just embrace the weather here in Buffalo. I just love it," said Kathy from Hamburg.
However, there are still a handful of local residents that would rather prefer the colder weather over the hot summers.
"Keep it cold. Big winter guy - skiing, snowboarding, pond hockey out here. We're a hockey town," said Alex from Tonawanda in an interview with WBEN.
"It's cool to see everybody help each other out, when people get snowed in, neighbors come through, they'll dig you out of driveways. That's really cool. And then pond hockey too, I live in Tonawanda right by Ives Pond, they flood it, and you could just bring some skates and a hockey stick, and people will play with you, complete strangers. You'll never know their name, but you'll play for a few hours and say, 'See you next time.'"
While the weather in Western New York has been a bit up-and-down through the spring and early summer, many in the region are very pleased to see the weather finally turning warmer, especially with the Fourth of July coming this weekend.
"It's definitely been a roller coaster, but I'm all about that. I don't mind the rain, I don't mind the little breeze like it is today. I love the weather regardless. Obviously the cold is not the best, but it's definitely worth it come summertime here in Buffalo," said Max from Buffalo with WBEN.
"Personally, I think it's been good. I walk in the mornings and we've been able to get out and walk most mornings. I know we've had some rain, but the last two weeks have been spring-like temperatures, and they've been beautiful," added Joan from North Buffalo.
"Definitely getting ready for it. Enjoying the cool while it lasts"
