Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - One storm at a time. It seems that way. Western New York went from a manageable weekend bout of snow to a wind storm on Tuesday.
Many are already looking ahead to the weekend, specifically Sunday when the Buffalo Bills host the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC Wild Card Round at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park.
The early forecast is calling for snow.
"We're getting storms about every three days," said meteorologist Andy Parker on WBEN on Tuesday. "It begins on Saturday with a little rain, then cold air comes sweeping in. We'll go from the 40s to the 20s, and that will trigger the lake effect snow machine."
It is too early to pinpoint areas that will see lake effect snow, but Parker said there is high confidence in a couple of factors.
"I can tell you that the weather at the game on Sunday is going to be in the low 20s with wind chills in the teens," he said. "And there is a potential for some snow."
Parker points to the fact that the stadium is located in one of the most prone areas for lake effect snow.
Forecasters will have a better handle on the weekend after Tuesday's wind storm exits.
"That's when we can start looking at the wind profiles to determine the cone of snow," Parker said.
Does one storm impact another?
"Not necessarily," Parker added. "Storms have a blinding factor. You have to get one out of the way before you can focus on the next one. It allows a better picture of the next one."
Parker says we are in a pattern right now where Western New York is right on the storm path.
"We've been in-between rain and snow, and the storm track is right on top of us," he said. We're going to see a pitching machine of low pressure systems, and they've been coming about every three days. You get out of one, catch a little break, and then all of a sudden the next one is approaching."
