Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - The WNY Muslim Public Affairs Council has shared its reaction to the arrests of 15 people following Wednesday's protests at the University at Buffalo North campus. The council believes the forced removal violated protesters' rights.
While UB says the protesters failed to comply with an order to disperse for a violation of UB’s Picketing and Assembling Policy that prohibits encampments and overnight assemblies, the council says the protesters did not disrupt any classes, lectures, or events.
The council says police watched Muslims offer evening prayers around 8:20 p.m., then 30 seconds later, "stormed the protest site and pounced on everyone without giving students any opportunity to leave the premises."
The council says it wants to know why there was such a heavy police presence when there were less than 100 peaceful protesters on site.
