BUFFALO (WBEN) - Mayor Byron Brown received his second shot Tuesday afternoon, meaning he is now finished with the series, and he's also challenging other hesitant Buffalo residents to do the same.

"I want to encourage other people in the community who have received a first shot to get a second shot, and I want to encourage everybody in the community to get vaccinated because it's important to protecting themselves, their families, their friends, and getting our community back to normal as quickly as possible," said Brown.

As restrictions continue to ease and life is starting to get somewhat back to a pre-COVID existence, Brown emphasized that the virus is still out there in the community.

Both Brown and Dr. Raul Vasquez, who administered the mayor's shots, noted that there are pockets of Buffalo that are under-vaccinated in comparison to the rest of the city and region.

"The 14208 (area code) and 14211 are the ones right now, based on the data on the last day that I saw, that are looking at about 41% that only have one shot," said Vasquez, who also noted it's imperative that the 12-17 year old population begin getting vaccinated at a higher rate.
