A television meteorologist in Australia helped recover the body of a missing man from the Gold Coast sea during a live report.
During a weather report, Luke Brandnam, a reporter for Australia’s Channel Nine, described the dangerous surfing conditions.
When finishing the report and while he was still alive, a boogie boarder told him about the body that was floating, reports Insider.
The reporter stripped down and entered the water. At first, Brandnam thought it was a swimmer but eventually realized that it was a dead body.
Shortly after the tragic incident, he was interviewed by his colleagues. His station posted the video on Twitter.
“#BREAKING: A body has been found in rough waters off narrowneck on the Gold Coast. Police are yet to formally identify the man. #9News,” the caption read.
The Queensland Police Service confirmed that the mission man was 32-year-old Jake Jacobs, a British gym manager who had gone missing. Reports say the man was last seen at Broadbeach, Queensland with a 29-year-old woman.
Police believe they had been skinny dipping. The woman’s body has since been recovered from the ocean on Kurrawa Beach.
MyFitness Club Broadbeach, the gym in Queensland where Jacobs worked, posted a heartwarming tribute.
“It is with great sadness that we mourn the tragic loss of our club manager Jake. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his friends and family at this time. He was instrumental in helping grow the awesome club that many of you call a second home. You will be missed mate,” the caption read.
