A grand jury has indicted the former Glynn County, Georgia district attorney who was accused of 'showing favor' to the men accused of killing Ahmaud Arbery. Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr announced Thursday that Jackie Lee Johnson had been indicted on charges of violation of oath of public office and obstruction of a police officer.

The 25 year old Arbery was jogging through a neighborhood when 3 white men chased him and are accused of shooting him to death.

In a discussion with Audacy Atlanta's Maria Boynton, Lee Merritt, attorney for the Arbery estate, called the indictment unprecedented. According to Merritt, "We rarely see a prosecutor held accountable for her participation in covering up this kind of crime."

The 25 year old black man, Arbery, was jogging through a neighborhood in Brunswick, Georgia, on February 23, 2020, when he was chased and shot to death. Greg and Travis McMichael, and their neighbor William Bryan are charged with murder.

They were arrested 3 months after Arbery's death.

"This is what it looks like when community gathers around an issue and uplifts a family", says Attorney Gerald Griggs representing the Georgia NAACP. He adds, "This is what happens when we are engaged for justice and this is what we are going to continue to do all the way 'til the end."

The trial for the McMichaels and Bryan is schedule to start on October 10, 2021.
