Charges have been filed against five people, four of them from Texas, who lassoed a Roseville, Minnesota ATM machine and tried to yank it away with a pickup truck earlier this week.
They're charged with theft and property damage. The FBI is investigating because the attempted theft is similar to a string of other similar crimes around the country.
In fact, there have been more than 50 such thefts since 2021 according to the criminal complaint.
ATM alarms went off about 4:00 a.m. outside the bank in the 1800 block of County Road B2 in Roseville, Minnesota. Police arrived just as a pickup truck was leaving the bank's parking lot with Brown driving.
They left behind a heavily damaged ATM machine lying in the parking lot and still holding more than $5,000 in cash.
Police were able to find one suspect on foot and tracked down the rest at a local motel and arrested them.
