A man suspected of killing three people in Mabank is in critical condition after crashing a van into a Buc-ee’s store in Ennis and shooting himself, according to police. The crash happened Friday morning at the busy travel center along Interstate 45, about 35 miles south of Dallas.
Authorities identified the suspect as 29-year-old Christopher Kyle Reid Jr. of Hubbard. Investigators believe Reid shot three people to death at a home in Mabank before driving to Ennis, where he rammed a minivan through the front of the Buc-ee’s.
Police say the vehicle struck and pinned a woman in her 30s from Oklahoma, who was taken to a hospital in stable condition. Reid then reportedly shot himself and was transported to a hospital in critical condition.
Ennis police, along with the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office and Texas Rangers, are investigating the case as both a triple homicide and an attempted suicide. Detectives say there is no ongoing threat to the public.
