“My dog is an introvert, so we went for a meeting of likeminded dogs,” reads text overlaying a video posted by Instagram user @qilasinsta last week. “This is what happened.”
In the video – which has gone viral – dogs can be seen standing (somewhat quietly) away from each other in a grassy area. As of Saturday, it has been viewed close to 423,000 times and had close to 20,000 likes. On TikTok, the video got more than 3.9 million likes.
The Huffington Post likened the scene to a “an office holiday party” and called it “adorably awkward.”
What is an introverted dog? According to consultants from Vermont Dog Behavior, it is possible for dogs to be introverts or shy, just like humans. Signs of an introverted dog might include aggressive behavior at other dogs and people, shrinking away from people and other dogs, or continuous whining when not at home.
“Even if this is not the dog you signed up for, please try to honor your dog’s social style, appreciate him for what he is, snuggly, cuddly, your very best friend,” said the consultants.
Qila, the dog whose owner posted the viral video, was found very pregnant on the streets of Sochi, Russia and “suffered a lot on the streets,” before she was rescued, according to an Instagram post. She was later adopted by her current owner, identified by The Huffington Post as Sofia Rosten of Sweden.
When she was first found, Qila was “afraid and insecure,” said Rosten. When Qila arrived in Sweden, she was still afraid of everything and everyone.
Rosten explained that a dog psychologist put together the introverted dog gathering. She said it lasted around an hour. At first, the dogs had a good time, and then got a bit overwhelmed by all of the socializing.
She wrote “it’s like a pasture of cows,” in text that appears over the video.
“This was almost at the end of the meeting and we all thought it looked so funny so I recorded it,” Rosten also said of her Instagram video.
