Martha Stewart gracing the cover of a magazine is old news...until now.
At the age of 81, Stewart will become the oldest cover model in history when she appears on the front of Sports Illustrated’s annual Swimsuit issue.
Stewart said during an appearance on the TODAY show, “To be on the cover (at) my age was a challenge. And I think I met the challenge.
“I think that all of us should think about good living, successful living and not about aging. The whole aging thing is so boring.”
Stewart joins fellow 2023 cover models Megan Fox, Kim Petras, and Brooks Nader.
SI Swimsuit editor in chief MJ Day said, “There is no theme [to this year’s issue]—rather, there is a vision, a sentiment, a hope that women can live in a world where they feel no limitations, internally or externally, but the absence of a theme is not to say that [these women] don’t share certain common traits. They’re constantly evolving.”
So, what do the people of the world think? As you can imagine, there was strong reaction to the news.
"People were really coming for her and saying it was really Photoshopped, but even if it is who cares, she looks gorgeous," influencer Michael Vanity said on You Tube. "If you want to have a million face lifts, do it. If you're old. if you're young, it's not cute.'
"She's 81, she looks amazing," he added.
Many agreed, saying she was a 'bonafide GILF' or 'grandma I'd like to F***.'
Others thought it set a bad example for young people struggling with unrealistic beauty standards amid people with unlimited money to spend on plastic surgery tune-ups.
"Is that a swimsuit everyone in their 80’s should be wearing? Not a swimsuit, so what does this accomplish?"Jeppe Sun wrote on Twitter. "For teenagers already dealing with body issues comparing her to their grandmothers? How does this relate to whatsoever? She looks beautiful, but she isn’t real."
Mariah K disagreed, writing on Twitter, 'If people still want to bang you at 81, you basically win life."
